What is a soft starter and how does the PSE25-600-70 work?

A soft starter reduces inrush current by gradually ramping up voltage to the motor during startup. The PSE25-600-70 uses solid-state thyristors to provide smooth acceleration over a programmable ramp time, typically 5-30 seconds, protecting both motor and electrical system.

What size motor can this soft starter control?

The 25A rating supports motors up to approximately 20 hp at 600V, 15 hp at 480V, and 10 hp at 208V, depending on the voltage supply and motor efficiency.

What are the voltage inputs this soft starter accepts?

The PSE25-600-70 is rated for 208V, 240V, 480V, or 600V 3-phase AC supply. It automatically adapts to the applied voltage within the 208-600V range.

Can this soft starter replace a traditional motor starter contactor?

Yes, the PSE25-600-70 can replace traditional starters for most applications. It provides better motor protection and network compatibility, though some applications may benefit from a bypass contactor for energy efficiency.

What is the control voltage requirement?

Typical control voltage is 120V AC, either derived from the main supply via step-down transformer or supplied separately. Control specifications vary by model revision; consult documentation.

Is thermal overload protection included?

Yes, the PSE25-600-70 includes built-in thermal overload protection to prevent motor damage from sustained overcurrent conditions.

What applications is this soft starter best suited for?

Ideal for centrifugal pumps, compressors, fans, conveyors, and HVAC systems—any application where reducing mechanical shock and inrush current improves reliability and extends equipment life.

What enclosure ratings are available?

Standard enclosure is NEMA 4 (IP54) for indoor panel mounting, protecting against dust and water splash. NEMA 4X stainless steel options may be available for corrosive environments.
